Description
Corr & Associates Spatial Planning were retained in conjunction with WCA Architects and our strategic healthcare partner, Broadmeadow Healthcare Management, to facilitate in the delivery of a 120 bed nursing home facility on lands at Duleek, Co. Meath.
The application consisted of significant revisions to a previously approved medical/retirement complex consisting of a 47 bed nursing home, a Primary Care and Day Care Centre and Assisted Living Units.
The proposed external amendments consisted of improvements to elevations including a pitched roof to ensure a more residential feel for the sites rural setting. Roof lights were incorporated within the pitched roof to enhance the first floor corridors with improved lighting. The revised fenestration was well balanced creating a well-proportioned elevational treatment.
The internal layout was revised in accordance with the highest HIQA Standards as set out in the “National Quality Standards for Residential Care of Older Persons” .
Revisions to bedroom sizes, location of lounge and dining rooms, family rooms, quiet areas together with the significant use of glass with respect to the orientation of the building ensured the provision of a tranquil, peaceful, secure and safe environment offering total respect and dignity to Residents.
The building layout afforded two internal secure sensory gardens. Landscaped courtyards and areas of open spaces were designed with specific landscaping specifications to include sensory plants where touch, smell and sound were all key as part of the dementia aware design utilized in the Nursing Home development.
