The Future Takes Shape: Spotlight on Our Summer Interns

Sep 4, 2025

At CWPA, we believe in supporting the next generation of planners and designers by giving them the opportunity to experience the profession in a real-world environment. This summer, we were delighted to welcome two interns, Ciaran Murphy and Huey Carter, who have both made valuable contributions to our practice and will continue working part-time with us as they complete their studies.

Ciaran Murphy is entering the final year of his BSc in Architectural Technology at TU Dublin (Bolton Street). He first joined CWPA on a college placement in January, which led to a full summer internship and now a part-time role during his final year.

Ciaran has gained hands-on experience across a wide range of projects, including, change of use planning applications, proposed warehousing & office development for a significant logistics business, proposed shipping container depot for a logistics business, feasibility study for a nursing home, proposed padel court development, fire & disability certificates as well as  commencement notices for ongoing projects.

On his time with CWPA, Ciaran said:

“The experience and mentoring in CWPA has massively improved my knowledge and understanding of my role as an architectural technologist. I have been able to develop new skills that I know will help me progress in my studies and future career.”

Huey recently graduated with a Bachelor’s in City Planning and Environmental Policy from UCD and will be returning in September to begin his Master’s in Urban Design and Planning.

During his time with CWPA,  Huey also worked across a variety of planning projects, including retention applications for both businesses and residential properties. He assisted with planning and pre-planning applications, took part in site visits, and installed site notices. Huey will also continue to part-time in CWPA while studying for his Master’s degree.

Reflecting on his experience, Huey said:

“I’ve really enjoyed working with the team, putting into practice learnings and getting the chance to collaborate across disciplines. I like the culture in CWPA and the office and how easy it is to work with both architects and planners all under one roof.”

We are delighted that both Huey and Ciaran will continue to work with us part-time during the year ahead. Their enthusiasm, fresh perspectives, and growing expertise are already making a difference, and we look forward to supporting them as they continue their journey in planning and architecture.
