CWPA Celebrates Planned Construction Start on €250m Kilshane Energy Power Plant

Oct 22, 2025

CWPA is delighted to welcome the announcement that construction is set to commence on Kilshane Energy’s €250 million gas turbine power generation station in north Dublin in Q1 2026. CWPA served as lead consultants, guiding the project through design and planning phase to secure full planning permission.

The new facility will have an output of up to 293 megawatts — enough to power approximately 300,000 homes. It represents a key element of Ireland’s strategy to strengthen energy security and provide flexible backup generation to support renewable energy sources.

Fran Whelan, Director at CWPA, said:

“This was an extremely complex, multidisciplinary project. From the outset, working alongside our infrastructure partners Waterman Moylan, we collaborated closely with Fingal County Council to align the design with its planned realignment of Kilshane Road — an improvement that will benefit the wider Ballycoolin–Blanchardstown corridor. In partnership with our landscape architect specialist, Rónán MacDiarmada, we also placed strong emphasis on green infrastructure and biodiversity, ensuring the landscaping delivers lasting environmental and visual value.”

The development includes an administration building and warehouse, packaged electronic and electrical control compartment, continuous emission monitoring system, fuel oil and water tanks, road improvement works, car and bicycle parking, a new on-site sewer pumping station, underground surface water attenuation areas, and extensive landscaping, tree planting, and boundary works.

Joe Corr, Managing Director at CWPA, commented:

“We’re very proud to see Kilshane Energy progressing to construction. This is a nationally significant project that will enhance the reliability and resilience of Ireland’s power supply. It’s particularly rewarding to see CWPA’s expertise contributing to infrastructure that supports homes, businesses, and communities across Fingal.”

Brian McMullan, Project Lead at Kilshane Energy, said:

“We’re delighted to be moving into the construction phase in Q1 2026 and see this major investment become a reality. CWPA’s guidance and expertise was instrumental in achieving a successful planning outcome, and their collaborative approach ensured the design supports both local infrastructure and Ireland’s broader energy goals.”

This project marks a major milestone for both Kilshane Energy and CWPA, underscoring a shared commitment to innovation, sustainability, and the delivery of essential national infrastructure that strengthens Ireland’s energy future.
