CWPA Planning and Architecture is proud to congratulate our colleague Shyamalima Buragohain on officially becoming a Registered Architect with the Royal Institute of the Architects of Ireland (RIAI).
This respected qualification marks one of the most significant milestones in an architect’s career. It recognises that Shyamalima has demonstrated the comprehensive knowledge, experience, and professional judgement required to take full responsibility for designing and delivering buildings in Ireland.
To achieve RIAI registration, architects must complete the Professional Diploma in Architectural Practice — a demanding course focused on the real-world responsibilities of architectural practice, including planning law, building regulations, contracts, health and safety, and project management. The qualification is awarded following a rigorous exam and interview process administered by the RIAI.
“Becoming a Registered Architect in Ireland is not just a professional milestone — it’s a deeply personal journey that reflects my passion for meaningful, sustainable design,” said Shyamalima. “I’m grateful to my mentors, colleagues, and the CWPA team for their support and encouragement throughout this process.”
CWPA’s Managing Director of Architecture, Fran Whelan, added: “We’re thrilled to see Shyamalima reach this important milestone. Her commitment to design excellence and sustainability has been clear since the day she joined us. Registration with the RIAI confirms what we already know — that Shyamalima is a talented, dedicated architect ready to make a lasting impact.
“Registration with the RIAI not only affirms Shyamalima’s professional capability but also grants the legal right to use the title “Architect” in Ireland. It reflects years of education, experience, and ethical commitment to the built environment — and we’re delighted to celebrate this achievement with her.”
Shyamalima’s work focuses on integrating sustainable urban design principles to improve quality of life and promote resilient, future-ready cities. Her dual expertise in architecture and urban design makes her a vital contributor to our multidisciplinary team.
Shyamalima joined CWPA in 2021 as an Architect and Urban Designer after earning a First Class Honours MSc in Urban Design and Planning from University College Dublin. She previously completed her Bachelor’s in Architecture in India in 2018 and has since contributed to projects across India and Sri Lanka.
Along with certifications in Sustainable Urban Development and Sustainable Energy, she has also published a paper in IIT Bombay Volume: Proceedings of International Conference on Humanising Work and Work Environment (HWWE) 2015 & Community Nutrition & Health: A Social Responsibility.
Since joining the company, she has been involved in a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from master planning, residential, commercial, hotel, leisure and healthcare.
