CWPA Director Achieves Passive House Designer Qualification

Jan 13, 2025

CWPA Planning & Architecture Director, Ciaran Corcoran, has added another accolade to his impressive list of qualifications by becoming a Certified Passive House Designer through MosArt Ltd/Passive House Academy.
Passive House Design is a rigorous standard for energy efficiency in buildings, aiming to drastically reduce a building’s ecological footprint while ensuring superior comfort and air quality. This design philosophy prioritises passive measures—such as high-quality insulation, airtight construction, and optimal solar orientation—over traditional, energy-intensive heating and cooling systems.
Commenting on his new qualification, Ciaran Corcoran said, “I am passionate about energy conservation and sustainability, so pursuing a qualification in Passive House Design was a natural choice. Our clients rely on our expertise to realise their dream projects, and the demand for smart, energy-efficient, and ecologically responsible designs is growing rapidly.”
Passive House principles can be applied to residential, commercial, and retrofit projects, enabling healthier and more sustainable living environments through meticulous design and construction.
CWPA Managing Director of Architecture, Fran Whelan, added, “At CWPA, we strongly support continuous professional development. It’s vital for us to offer clients a comprehensive range of services tailored to their needs. Ciaran is an excellent role model, especially for our younger colleagues. On behalf of the entire CWPA team, I congratulate him on achieving this challenging and prestigious qualification.”
As a Certified Passive House Designer, Ciaran is now eligible to use the official designation and will be listed on the Passive House Institute’s directory of Certified Passive House Designers and Consultants, available at www.passivehouse-designer.org.
